The River Inn opened for buisness in 1992 and is now being managed by Paul Byrnes and John Wall.
Occasional visitors to the River Inn (opposite the hospital on Newcastle Road) might have noticed some changes recently.
The pub was taken over in 2006 by Paul Burns and the changes are there for everybody to see, from the live music 4 nights a week (peak season), to the early till late food service, have been striking.
In December 2006 Paul, along with new partner John Wall, took over the food side of the business. John brings over twenty years of restaurant experience to the partnership.
‘The philosophy is simple; restaurant quality food and service at bar food prices. We offer varied menus, served to your table in generous portions. It’s quick, friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere.’
The menus are certainly extensive. From the Mediterranean Chicken to the Baked Irish Salmon or Sirloin Steak, there is something among the many main course offerings for everyone.
That’s why we’re now open for food from 8:30 in the morning till late in the evening.’ There’s a full breakfast menu available from 8:30 to 11.45am (Monday to Saturday), the lunch menu runs from 12:00 to 3:00, when the a la carte menu takes over & runs until late. On Sunday there is a traditional Sunday lunch menu with a three course special €19.50 served 12 to 4pm
Since taking over last year Paul has turned the River Inn into an interesting alternative music venue. Over the summer the Galway Bay Jazz Band delivered some magic Sunday evening sessions and more recently trad has become an interesting addition to the musical menu.
Paul recalls a recent Sunday evening session that featured eight top class musicians including Sharon Shannon and -- --. ‘It wasn’t just trad,' Paul says, 'there was a real bluegrass flavour to it. That’s what we’re trying to do, keep it fresh and interesting.
The River Inn is available for [private] parties of up to 30 people.
